A DAY IN THE LIFE

Farming is a vocation, an adventure, a labor and, sometimes it seems like a work of magic. Everything affects everything else, the bees, the sun, the sky, the creek, the cows, the people, the land. Before the time of agribusinesses and agriculture programs in universities, farming was a culture, was people who passed intimacy with the land from one generation to the next. These are our stories.

2009 was quite a year!

Quite a year indeed! We had so much going on this past year it was amazing! We added 25 “New Hamps” chickens to the farm. They lay beautiful brown eggs and bring plenty of laughter to each day. They have the whole farm to run around and eat bugs, and they love it! Their eggs reflect the richness of their diet and are delicious! The cows are doing fine and we still have 13, although I think we will have a calf or two this spring. We finished construction on our Passive Solar Greenhouse about a 2 months ago. It is a wonderful place to raise plants! It is a straw bale building with a south face of window from floor to peak. The clay on the straw bales gives it such a warm glow, it is always pleasing to be in. We are hoping to be able to provide our community with fresh winter greens and other veggies (and herbs!). We are in the process of experimenting right now. The weather outlook is cold, so we will see! We are getting ready to open this year’s CSA membership. I am sure this year will be even more amazing! I will post more soon!
